When Sophia Scott went to get her student ID card, she had her 5-year-old son Michael with her. "The lady asked me if I wanted him in the picture with me," Scott said. "I said, 'Sure, that would be great.'" Scott is a 25-year-old general science major in the honors program, working toward medical school with a pharmacy minor.
Admissions style draws national attention
Over the past six years, OSU's admissions office has been moving away from traditional methods of evaluation like grade point average and SAT scores in favor of methods that aim to provide a more holistic picture of a student's skills and talents. The success of this method, along with OSU's increase in minority enrollment, has several universities around the country adopting the idea.
Students share opinions on CIA recruitment
As the war on terrorism continues, the CIA appears to be the target of growing negative sentiments at home. Last month, a group of University of Wisconsin students protested CIA recruitment when they marched in front of recruiters on campus. These protests erupted due to student groups' views on the agency's involvement in American foreign policy, according to The Badger Herald.
