Oregon State University is fined $18,600 for improper handling of laboratory chemicals, waste
In an October 2008 inspection, it was discovered that OSU improperly handled and disposed of leftover laboratory chemicals and hazardous wastes.
The university is being fined $18,600 for the citation.
According to the Department of Environmental Quality, the violations included illegal treatment of hazardous wastes, failure to determine whether or not waste was hazardous, and failure to label containers.
Senior gift has long-lasting potential
Tradition of senior class giving a gift back to OSU becomes inspiration for inception of a scholarship endowment fund
Many schools hold an annual tradition where the graduating seniors leave a gift for the university. At OSU, that tradition hasn't taken place in recent years.
Beginning with last year's graduating class, the OSU Foundation started the Senior Gift Giving Council, bringing the tradition to OSU in the future.

All Oregon State University female employees now have a new opportunity to gather and mentor one another. The new organization, known as the OSU Women's Network (OWN), grew out of the Faculty Women's Network (FWN), which only served teaching and professional faculty.
