As finals near, SHS urges students not to turn to Adderall

Dead week is here and it's time for students to catch up on the studying they have put off all term. This pressure, however, is leading some students to turn to the Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder drug Adderall in an attempt to keep focused. This is why Alex Wheaton and Erin Dorsey, both sophomores in health education, set up a booth in the MU Quad yesterday to warn students about the dangers of Adderall.

Musicians dominate campus during weekend
From the eastside dorms to Greek Row, music reverberated in and around the OSU campus throughout the weekend. Battle of the Bands was held Friday, followed by the Flat Tail Festival on Saturday. Both events were hosted by the MUPC. The Flat Tail Festival, featuring headliner Ghostland Observatory, was covered in an article printed in the Friday, May 30 issue of The Daily Barometer.

Construction raises concerns

A large-scale revamping of Northwest 14th and 15th streets will take place over the summer and run until October. The project is a joint venture between OSU and the city of Corvallis to widen 14th and 15th streets between Monroe Avenue and Jefferson Way.

Amidst flying ping-pong balls, hand-made rainbow colored paper flowers and hundreds of four-and-a-half feet tall kids that would make the energizer bunny look slow, Chelsea Harlos, 23, joins the rush in the Clubhouse with bright eyes and a big smile. Harlos, a senior in human development and family sciences, is not only a full-time student at Oregon State University, but is also working as an AmeriCorps VISTA as the volunteer coordinator at the Corvallis Boys & Girls Club.

Today several Corvallis restaurants will dedicate a percentage of an entire day's profits to the Boys & Girls Club in the first ever: Dine Out with the Boys & Girls Club of Corvallis event. This event started as a group project for a business class, BA 462, Project Management, and it has turned into a community-wide fundraising effort.

From all the cheese, milk and butter in the quad Monday you would have thought you'd been transported to Tillamook. But in actuality it was OSU's Dairy Club out in full force promoting themselves and the consumption of dairy products on campus. For three hours during lunchtime the Dairy Club stood in the MU Quad selling grilled cheese sandwiches and milk for just 50 cents each.

High gas prices affecting students

Everything from driving to work to late-night 7-11 runs are becoming a lot more expensive. Local gas prices are now more than $4 a gallon, causing students to pay more and reevaluate their driving and spending habits. "I've been paying double for what I normally did on gas," said Alysia Furman, a freshman in business.

Getting girls geared up for self-esteem

Students can sign up to run with adolescents to promote health, self-esteem
Girls in the Corvallis area now have the chance to see life differently as they embark on their teenage years. This summer and beyond, Girls on the Run and Girls on Track programs will come to OSU and Corvallis to promote athleticism, teamwork and self esteem for young women.
