OSU mourns loss of senior in liberal arts

Memorial services for Ben Gerling will be held Sunday, May 18 at First Baptist Church
OSU student Ben Gerling committed suicide early Monday morning, according to Lt. Jeff Lanz, station commander for the Oregon State Police branch on campus. Gerling was a senior in liberal arts. Corvallis EMS and the Corvallis Police department responded to the call to his off-campus apartment.

White flags represent five or more Iraqi deaths, red flags show five American deaths
Reminders of lives lost in war
Starting Tuesday and lasting until May 14, the Valley Library Quad will be covered in white and red flags to show the number of Iraqis and Americans that have died since the invasion of Iraq in March 2003. The flags and information are brought to OSU by the Iraq Body Count Exhibit, which is a non-political organization that informs the public of the exact loss of life that has resulted in the past five years.

Keven Malkewitz, assistant professor of marketing at OSU, knows all about the effectiveness of marketing wine bottles. "Consumers look at all cues - bottle, situation, environment, brand, etc. - and this all affects a person's perception and taste of the wine," Malkewitz said.

The big white mansion on Northwest 21st Street and Northwest Harrison Boulevard, known for its well-lit room full of paddles, has been in hibernation for some time and is just now beginning to wake up. Pi Kappa Phi is returning as an active OSU fraternity this spring, as leadership consultants Jake Henderson, Michael Larsson and Walt Pape recruit founding fathers for the fraternity's reinstatement.
