Roper named interim dean of College of Liberal Arts
Friday, May 25, 2007 -- Larry Roper, vice provost for student affairs at OSU, has been named interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts, succeeding retiring dean Kay Shaffer, the university announced Friday afternoon. He will continue in his role as vice provost.
Power outage puts Monroe
A transformer on Grant Avenue's substation was blown, leaving part of Corvallis without power
On Wednesday night, the Monroe Avenue area was operating in darkness as the electrical power went out.
Pacific Power spokeswoman Bekki Witt said the outage was caused when a Grant Avenue substation transformer blew out.
"It looks like they just had a piece of equipment fail, it happens sometimes," Witt said.

College of Education focuses on retention through diversity
College of Education hosts community forum to discuss retention and diversity
"When I think about retention I think, 'why do students and faculty stay [at OSU] and can we provide an environment where people want to stay?'" said Joanna Means, a graduate student in the college of student services administration program.
Means was part of a small group of students and faculty who gathered in room 129 of Education Hall Thursday to discuss the College of Education's Diversity Action Plan with a special focus on retention at OSU.

The spotlight was on Corvallis as different singers came to the Peacock Bar and Grill last night to show off their music talents in the "Corvallis Idol."
Erik Larson, a professor in the College of Business, gave his project management classes an assignment to make as much money as possible for a charity by organizing an event.
