She is one of the first people most students see when they start college and the last person most students see when they leave. You can usually find her sitting at the front desk of the registrar's office. Her name is Marteen Sparlin, an office assistant in the registrar's office.

Legislation proposes cutting adjunct profs in Oregon University System

If passed, bill could mean less part-time professors at OSU
On Feb. 6, Oregon State Rep. Peter Buckley proposed House Bill 2578, recently discussed in the House, that will reduce the number of adjunct or part-time professors allowed to teach within the Oregon University System. If passed, the bill would require six out of every eight faculty members to be full-time tenured, or tenure track, leaving no more than 25 percent of positions available for part-time employees.

Unanimous passage of Shared Responsibility Model by Senate will send bill to Oregon House
The unanimous passage of Senate Bill 334 in the Oregon Senate Wednesday marked the first of many steps the Legislature could take in proving to students that higher education matters. "This is a huge victory for students," said Oregon Student Association Chair Megan Driver, who is also an OSU student.

On OSU President Ed Ray's cue, black drapes - covering the design of OSU's official school ring - came down. The unveiling ceremony, held in the Memorial Union Lounge Wednesday afternoon, drew a crowd of students and faculty. Alumni Director Jeff Todd and Ray spoke about the importance of such a symbol.

Joint competition Friday tests physical and mental strength
Those with a thirst for good competition will find no shortage of it at the third annual Joint Service Olympics. The Joint Service Olympics consist of a series of events fought out between the Army, Navy/Marines, and Air Force branches of OSU's Reserve Officers Training Corps program.
