The Comedy Sportz show of Portland will be performing at Oregon State University this Saturday, March 7. This charity event is a class project and will raise money for the United Way of Benton County.
The Comedy Sportz show is a high-energy improvisational comedy where two teams of comedians compete against one another for points and laughter from the audience. The show is family-friendly and involves audience participation.
"[Comedy Sportz] is kind of like 'Who's Line is it Anyway?,'" said senior Whitnie Ray, a member of the Laugh Out Loud team and a class project student.
The event was organized by the project management class offered here at Oregon State University.
"We chose [the show] because one of our team members had seen the show and really enjoyed it," Ray said. "Also, since we were working with a charity, [the event] needed to be clean and family-friendly."
The project management course, BA 462, is a class that covers all aspects of project managing, including organization and project environments.
"[The class] reminds me of 'The Apprentice,'" said senior Grace Sansom, another team member of the class project. Sansom also said the class really showed what it takes to be a project manager.
All of the proceeds of the event will go to United Way where it may be used toward education. United Way of America is a national network that works to advance the common good through education, income and health.
Local United Ways address the underlying causes of the most significant local issues. These can include helping children and youth achieve higher potential, promoting financial stability and independence and improving people's health.
"United Way is kind of a campaign," said United Way project manager Nathan Storms. "The strategy of United Way is to leverage diversity where people feel supported to do their personal best."
United Way works with local governments and organizations to address local concerns. Its goal is to create long lasting, positive changes in communities.
The Comedy Sportz show will perform in Milam Auditorium from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at any of the three Dutch Bros. in Corvallis, the Hilton Garden Inn and the Holiday Inn Express for $10 each. All checks should be made payable to United Way.
