In an attempt to build a bond between American students and international students, Agnes Roche, a senior in business, created a show on KBVR called "Open World."
Roche is studying abroad at OSU from Lyon, France. She is on a one year study program, and during her winter term, she decided to create a TV show.
"After using the fall term to adapt to my new environment, I had enough confidence to go to KBVR and talk about my idea," Roche said.
She soon found support and encouragement on her idea from ISOSU and KBVR. With the help of members from the KBVR staff, Roche got started on "Open World."
"I decided it would be best if the international students decided what they would want to talk about rather than have a formal way of presenting each show," Roche said. "It is also a good way to see how different cultures present themselves in different ways."
International guests had the opportunity to show their cultural beliefs, food, customs and experiences as an international student at OSU.
Roche has matched her weekly schedule for this season's programs with ISOSU's calendar. This will allow her to synchronize her episodes' international student with the current cultural event held by ISOSU that week.
At first Roche said she was modest about her ideas for a television program and wasn't too serious about the idea.
"I just had the idea [to start a show] last year when I was trying to decide in which university I would do my year abroad," Roche said.
"Most of the decision [to attend OSU] was based on the fact that there was a TV studio that seemed to give students a real opportunity to launch new shows."
Once Roche realized this, she chose OSU. She knew that making her television program was something she was very interested in.
"I want to use this year to get as much experience as possible and to have the best chances to get an internship in the movie or TV industry," Roche said.
Roche has been enjoying her study abroad time, and is now pursuing a career as a movie producer.
"My only hope for the rest of the year is to be able to provide the best show possible, to create interest in discovering other countries, culture and be proud of the work I've done here [at OSU]," Roche said.
"Open World" airs on KBVR TV every Thursday at nine in the evening. If students would like to participate on the show as a guest or a volunteer, they can contact Roche by e-mail.
