Arrests

1:59 a.m., Sunday, April 6 — Stephen A. Smith of Harrisburg, 46, was charged with a driving under the influence of intoxicants, driving without headlights and refusing a breath test after he was stopped for driving without headlights between N.W. 17th St. and N.W. Van Buren Ave. Smith consented to and failed a field sobriety test at which point he was arrested. Smith refused a breath test, was cited and given a courtesy ride.

12:04 a.m., Friday, April 4 — Danny Ray Caldwell of Corvallis, 41, was arrested on a fugitive arrest warrant for another agency. Police pulled over the vehicle in which Caldwell was a passenger for brake light and registration plate violations.

7:11 p.m., Friday, April 4 — Allan Earl Wilson of Corvallis, 46, was arrested and charged with providing police with false information, fugitive arrest warrant for another agency and a local warrant after a citizen reported him to police. When questioned by police, Wilson gave the false name Daryle E. Whaley. Wilson confessed to providing false information and claimed it was because he had an outstanding arrest warrant. Dispatch reported to the officer that Wilson had three valid outstanding arrest warrants including: failure to appear-Corvallis Municipal Court, probation violation-Polk County, probation violation-Marion County. Wilson was taken into custody and transported to Benton County Correctional Facility.

11:55 p.m., Friday, April 4 — Paul Matthew McGinley of Corvallis, 41, was arrested for violation of probation and providing police with false information after being stopped between S.W. 4th St. and S.W. C Ave. for failing to signal a turn on his bicycle. McGinley told police his name was Paul W. Johnson and that his date of birth was 2/19/55. At the time McGinley appeared to be under the influence of methamphetamines and was issued a probation violation detainer by Parole and Probation.

1:37 p.m., Thursday, April 3 — Mitchell Gene Melbye of Lebanon, 28, was arrested for a warrant for FTA-assault between S.W. 15th St. and S.W. Philomath Blvd.

2:54 p.m., Thursday, April 3 — Sarath Nel, 45, Jose B. Tlaxacaltecatl Amayo, 20, and Jose Mateo Tlaxacaltecatl Amayo, 20, were arrested on charges of unlawful cut/transport of forest product on BLM road near Oliver Creek. The suspects were harvesting bear grass without a permit. Nel was also charged with unlawful possession of a firearm when police discovered a .9 mm pistol in the vehicle. All three suspects were cited and released.

7:40 p.m., Thursday, April 3 — Stephen D. Surdyka of Corvallis, 53, was arrested at 602 S.W. Madison Ave. and charged with criminal trespassing in the second degree when officers responded to a trespassing complaint of a disorderly subject at First Christian Church. Surdyka was taken into custody after being told multiple times to leave the church and refusing to comply.

7:40 p.m., Thursday, April 3 — Jared W. Swift of Salem, 26, was charged with DUII after being pulled over between N.W. 3rd St. and N.W. Jackson Ave. for turning onto N.W. 3rd St. from an improper lane on N.W. Monroe Ave. Swift consented to a field sobriety test and provided a breath sample. Swift had a BAC of 0.09 percent.

Thefts

1:18 a.m., Sunday, April 6 — Alexander H. Keister of Corvallis, 18, was charged with theft in the second degree and purchase/possession of liquor by a minor after stealing a gray plastic garbage can from Baja Fresh and 11 plastic table order numbers from Carl’s Jr. Keister admitted to stealing the items and claimed it was because he was intoxicated. Keister was issued a citation and taken home. The total worth of the stolen items was $102 and Keister had a BAC of 0.20 percent at the time of arrest.

Saturday, April 5 — Aaron B. Stovall of Corvallis, 20, was charged with theft in the second degree and issued an exclusion notice when he was arrested for stealing a rear 26” wheel from a mountain bike on the east side of the bookstore. When Stovall was confronted for suspicion of theft, he also confessed to stealing two bike lights from elsewhere on campus. Stovall was arrested and transported to BCCF. Upon violation of the exclusion notice, Stovall was issued he would be charged with criminal trespass in the third degree.

4:15 p.m., Thursday, April 3 — 18-year-old OSU student Eva M. Miles of Corvallis was charged with theft in the third degree after being identified by the OSU Loss Prevention employees as the subject from an offense that took place on February 8 of this year. Miles was cited for stealing a baseball hat from the OSU bookstore worth $24.95.

4:35 p.m., Thursday, April 3 — Michelle Lanette Randall of Corvallis, 31, was arrested on N.W. Hwy 99 and charged with theft in the second degree after her probation officer discovered a plastic bag in Randall’s closet during a home visit. The bag contained numerous unopened DVD movies and several unopened games. Randall confessed to stealing the items from Safeway. The stolen merchandise had a total value of $580.
