"We'll miss you Tom," were the words on the cake for Tom Munnerlyn, director of career services.

After nine and a half years at OSU, Munnerlyn's last day is today. He had a retirement party on Monday in the MU learning lounge.

"I enjoyed my time here at OSU," Munnerlyn said. "I have developed many relationships with faculty and staff. I will miss these the most."

Munnerlyn is moving to Cal Poly Pomona where he will be the director of career services.

"I am looking forward to trading rain for sun," Munnerlyn said. "They have a very urban campus with a diverse student population. It will be a unique experience coming from OSU."

Faculty and staff expressed how they will miss Munnerlyn.

"He has supported me personally through my education," said Edie Blakley, Munnerlyn's assistant. "He has a deep commitment to diversity and multiculturalism. He is welcoming to students."

One of Blakley's favorite things about working with Munnerlyn is the way he would walk in and greet her enthusiastically.

Blakley will not continue to be the assistant to the new director.

"Tom is great," said David Craig, the assistant director of resident life.

Craig met Munnerlyn early in both of their careers when Craig wanted to put a posting on the Beaver Web site about open resident assistant positions.

"Tom is always in a great mood," Craig said. "It always seems like he has all the time in the world to talk to people."

"It is sad to have a colleague leave," said Jill Creighton, a graduate student in college student service administration. "He is always so happy and positive. The whole staff seems to come together around him."

Larry Roper, vice provost of student affairs, is sad to see Munnerlyn go, but believes he is going to experience a great opportunity by leaving.

"I enjoyed his professionalism," Roper said. "He has an interesting take on issues and I can always count on him to help us improve relations with employees."

When looking at certain issues, Munnerlyn always takes a perspective on both the side of the student and the side of the employer. This improves relations with the students and with the employers Roper said.

"I will miss a lot of things here." Munnerlyn said. "OSU has some excellent academic programs."
