Diverse local music celebrated at SigRock

SigRock, happening this Saturday, is the finale of SigStock, the largest philanthropy in OSU history. There isn't a much better way to end the three-day event than with an amazing lineup of local bands.
The event will boast everything from food and drink vendors including Domino's and Jamba Juice. Tony's Smoke Shop will set up a spot for hookah smoking as well.
SigRock wouldn't have come together if everyone hadn't done their part. "If there was one guy that didn't show up, the entire thing would crumble," said James Kidwell, a junior in construction engineering management.
There are hopes from many of the fraternities that SigRock and SigStock will change the face of the Greek community at OSU.
"I hope this changes the view of the Greek community," said Jeff Whitman, a junior in construction engineering management. "We are making an effort to break down walls. SigRock and SigStock are open to everyone."
The diversity of the bands taking part in SigStock ensures that there will be something for everyone, and they all jumped on for free to support the cause.
"We approached a bunch of bands to see if they would be playing in front of a large group for a good cause," Whitman said. "We had a lot of positive responses."
Not only would the bands be playing for a good cause, but they they will also receive benefits as well.
"I can see this as being good prep for Battle of the Bands for most of the bands there," said Andrew Wells, one of the organizers of SigRock.
The idea for SigRock started as a project that Sigma Alpha Epsilon tried to put together for a few years.
"Over the years, some frats would have smaller concerts, or we would make T-shirts and plan it, but it never really happened," Wells said.
SigStock turned out to be the event they needed to make SigRock happen.
"I talked to Vishal Khemlani [founder of Karmic Causes, the organization putting together SigStock] a few moths ago," Wells said. "We joined forces to make it happen."
"Part of my job was connecting the four fraternities [Sigma Phi Epsilon, Kappa Sigma, Sigma Chi and Sigma Alpha Epsilon] together," Whitman said. "But we all shared the responsibilities of the event."
SigRock will be held near the SAE house at N.W. 30th Street and N.W. Harrison Boulevard.
Entrance will cost $5 per person. Bracelets sold for $10 at Snell Hall provide access to all SigStock events.
