Students say Morrow's OS logo is 'so, so' for Beavers

Abstract:
The new Oregon State University athletic logo was unveiled April 3, and a large number of students were less than enthusiastic about the change.

The change was inspired by university desire to set itself apart from other OSUs in Division-I athletics, Oklahoma State University and Ohio State University....

The mark is the farthest thing from being unique. Oh by the way, we have an excellent graphic design program at OSU. The mark could have been done by OSU GD students, which would have turned out better and upgrading season tickets would not have been an issue. $50,000? The art department could have used that money. With budget cuts, wouldn't that have made sense? Yes. But its not a money making machine like the athletic dept., so who cares. This is a perfect example of wrong priorities in the administration.

I am a Senior at OSU. The new logo that has been pressed upon us without any student body examination or input before being approved is not what I would have had in mind for our University. When I see the new logo, I see Ohio State or Oklahoma State. The logo does not speak to me of the unique individuality that envelopes each of us here at Oregon State University, but places us into a boiling pot of unrecognizable confusion. I disagree with Townsend, creating a non-descript logo that will blend us in with other universities that have the same old ideology, whether we used school monies or not. We are not "O S" we are OSU.

We are not OS. Brad Townsend is the marching band director, and shouldn't be allowed to make decisions for the school. Just because he's dissatisfied with our logo, or wants to hide behind one that will make casual fans scratch their heads in confusion, doesn't mean the rest of us should suffer. (Marching band, by the way, isn't a sport, as much as they moan about it). Please, for pete's sake, change the logo back. Disassociate ourselves from it. We are O-S-U. O-S makes nO-Sense.

I agree that students should have had more input - maybe even veto via a vote. New logo is definitely a mundane object. Why not have Graphics Design students draw up another logo and vote. One way for students to really indicate displeasure is to actively boycott and articles sporting the new logo

The new logo is a disappointment. We are OSU, not OS. No amount of marketing is going to make this logo a winner in the eyes of student, alumni, or the general public.
I have no doubt that the graphic design program students could create a better logo that better captures the essence of OSU. I say challenge the GD students and have a competition using a combination of alumni, students, and administrators to determine the winner.

Go Beavs!

I am disapointed our athletes will no longer wear "OSU" on their uniforms. Every week I receive electronic information from those "other" universities and I have never confused their information as coming from Oregon State University. It is a disgrace not to involved the student body and alumns more in this decision, but it is a real disgrace not to have had our graphic design students do the design work. The way this decision was carried out does not make me a proud OSU Beaver!

I hate to burst the bubble of everyone who is so thrilled about this logo (cricket, cricket...), but Oklahoma State baseball already has the exact same interlocking OS logo on their vintage uniforms. We're Ore. St. grads living in Stillwater, Okla. now, so we know.
