Planned Parenthood keeps killing them softly

Abstract:

I'm surprised the Black community in Portland isn't up in arms right now - one of their new neighbors has a proven track record of anti-Black bigotry and violence. A new Planned Parenthood center is being built in Northeast Portland on Martin Luther King Boulevard....

Dan Fitzpatrick, you are an idiot. Do you really think that the entire of the proportion of patients that come to PP for STI treatment are the same folks that go there for contraception? I find it much more likely that those who come for the former do so because they didn't for the latter. And I'm sure that you're right. I bet there is some awesome, time-spanning conspiracy on the part of Margret Sanger to kill all the black people in the world and that current PP employees and volunteers are her unwitting zombies. Well done with that little bit of detective work. I appreciate your alternate theory here but I think I'll stick with believing that un-wealthy people end up with more abortions as a fall out of their socio-economic status. That is that as being without that wealth they are more prone to easily attained pleasures, such as drug and sex abuse, and are more of the fix the problem than prevent the problem philosophy. And that they see pregnancy as a problem (not so much that PP sees their pregnancy as a problem).

But in case you didn't read any other part of this comment, I want you to know that you, sir, are an idiot.

Mr. Fitzpatrick,
I am a healthy, 24 year old white female who has graduated from college and will soon be moving to Portland to pursue further education. When I first became sexually active late in high school I was afraid to tell my parents--couldn't tell my parents--as many young adults are. I remember being so nervous and shaky on my first visit to Planned Parenthood. I also remember being so amazed at the services that they provided for the community, that I wanted to get a job there!
When I leave Corvallis and move to Portland I will no longer have health insurance. There have been a few times in my adult years where this situation has come up, and being in a long-term, healthy sexual relationship with my boyfriend means that I need to find a way to receive my birth control pills. This is where PP comes in. This organization is out to promote healthy sexual relationships and education. I have been given just as much information, if not more, from PP as from my OB/GYN.
In your article you make PP out to be a place for the lower classes, or the uneducated. I am here to say that this is simply not true. There are times in everyone's lives when they must seek out resources provided by the community to help better their situation. Planned Parenthood is not a resource for the lower classes, it is a place for all classes.

Dan, you are so selfish. If you feel negatively about PP and want to write an article about it, use solid (complete) facts to support your opinion, not facts that you can add assumptions to in order for them to fit your story. It is writers like you who embarrass our newspaper in front of the community. Just because it is an editorial doesn't mean you can INFER things about people and businesses, you need FACTS. I hope you realize that by not writing a quality editorial your opinion on the matter will NEVER be respected by readers, let alone supported. PP deserves an apology from you for fabricating facts based on your opinion, instead of basing your opinion on unfabricated facts.

Great article!! It's nice to see a more realistic view of abortion for once. People are so quick to approve of women's rights through abortion, but disregard the idea that fetal women have rights too! Can you imagine if amazing people like Helen Keller, Beethoven, and Einstein had been aborted because it was just too inconvenient for their mothers?! Maybe someone aborted the one who would find the cure for cancer...because it was inconvenient. Women are all pro-choice...your choice is whether to have sex or not. If you get pregnant, it's too late to be making more choices for yourself. At that point you are making choices about someone else's life...and I thought pro-choicers were against that...hmmm...interesting.

Azz....Really? All women who get pregnant choose to do so? All women who have sex choose to do so? And for your information...That follicle, or group of small cells your friends bomb clinics over...is not someone else's life. The LAW supports that no matter how much you want change it. Because baby, your hodunk leaders you were counting on taking abortion out of our constitution...Aint gonna happen. Know why? Because they are populationists. Poor people want abortions, and Bush and his elitist friends don't give a damn about poor people. They want to make more poor people by getting rid of the middle class maybe. But really they want more for themselves, they need you to do that. See if abortion were off the table, then who would be the conservative base? Population control is our future.

Can you imagine if Charles Manson, John Wayne Gacy Jr., and Saloth "Pol Pot" Sar had been aborted? A lot of innocent people wouldn't have lost their lives. Your argument holds no water. Approximately 70% of fertilized eggs become miscarriages, 22% of those before a pregnancy test could even detect anything. All of those babies could have been the next Martin Luther King or the next Hitler as well.

Although I appreciate the small print after Mr. Fitzpatrick's emesis,
warning readers that the Barometer does not necessarily agree with his
opinions,I would think that a University paper would check his facts.
Please see here:
http://www.abortionfacts.com/statistics/us_stats_race.asp
Where their table shows Blacks and other races combined were less than
white women who had abortions.

And in this paragraph from the CDC:
In the 35 reporting areas for which race was provided, classified
according to the same categories used in previous years, approximately
53% of women who obtained legal induced abortions were known to be
white; 36%, black; and 8%, other; for 3%, race was not known (Table 9).

Mr Fitzpatrick quotes his so called facts from an "Author" Johna
Goldberg..Who is really a right winged patsy for our corrupt media as a
barely nominal journalist, whose accolades include the Christian
Science Monitor.

Fitzy continues to make me just a little cranky by attempting to be
sticking up for the Black Women so that he can slam Planned Parenthood.
Even if he doesn't realize his covert racist remarks, they are exactly
that. See minorities population are on the increase, while Caucasians
in industrial countries are in the decline. We can argue about why that
is, but the facts are the facts which are revealed also in the abortion
statistics. I can tell you one thing of many, that Planned Parenthood
does for those women who walk through those doors. And who have
statistics that would make extremists like Fitzy quickly hide behind
his cognitive dissonance...The age statistics reflected in the CDC, are
because young women under the age of 18, are pregnant by older men over
20.
See Planned Parenthood does everything they can to educate women. That
is something that people like Fitzy and Jonah Goldberg does not want.

Hey Fitzy, will all of your pro life rhetoric be moot when population controls come into effect soon?

Azz~
Setting aside all opinions of abortion, this article was embarrassing because of the fabrication of "facts", and the misuse of quotes that he took out of context. Praise him for standing up for his opinions, but please don't praise him for his horribly written, poor excuse for an article.

Dan do you realize how many people you could be hurting by writing this kind of stuff? People who have open minds and open hearts and then you go tear down a group of people and an organization with skewed facts? What if someone actually believes what you say? Bashing Planned Parentood and lying is only going to give rise to more bigots like you.

To all those PP supporters with open minds and open hearts, I think you should also open your wallets to take the burden off the rest of the tax payers. Didn't anyone notice the $336 million in tax payer's money that PP receives annually...no comments on that?
As a Pro-Life California Latino Democrat, I was disappointed with Obama's answer about abortion, especially when I believe he will institute more tax dollars into programs like PP, when I think they should be privately funded.
I have no problem with PP (or other similar programs) as long as my tax-paying dollars are not being spent on it. I am Pro-Choice when it comes to spending my tax dollars!

I just can't believe people still think this way. Mr. Fitzpatrick, you may have been wanting to get a rise out of people for this article. but I think you're a liar, a bigot and a racist. yes that's right, I called you a racist.
