Choices available for next step in life

Abstract:
I've been thinking a lot about pregnancy lately, even though the subject isn't directly relevant to my life just yet.

With the recent passage of Mother's Day and the subsequent time spent among my siblings and their young children, it's inevitable that kids would be on my mind a little....

Bwahahaha... options? Tons. Smart. No way in heck.

I've one through this... well, as close as any guy ever can. You will have many many feelings. But you will NEVER feel smart. Ever. Sacred. Yup. Irrational. Yup. Completely confused by the myriad of so called options. Yup. Drowned in advice... YUP!!!

Everything leads to one thing. The baby. Once you decide, its gunna come... on its own terms. You can take prenatal vitamins, you can go to lamaz, you can revel in spending hundreds on new cute cloths to hide what can only be described as a basketball growing inside you. But its coming, and at some point, you are going to wonder how ANYONE ever does this. Your husband or partner is... I guarantee it.

And when the little bundle of joy shows up, it seems all so natural. Nope. It is now a whole new roller coster of emotion which makes college feel like child's play. No switch gets thrown to make you an adult. You are not magically imparted with some special knowledge at some point. You are still the same person who thought that drinking beer out of plastic cup was cool a few years back. More educated to be sure, and maybe a little brighter. And this new person depends entirely on you.

Nothing is scarier. Nothing. Of course, this is offset by nothing being cooler or more fulfilling - and this is coming from someone who swore his entire life that people who said that were full of it. Its the best thing ever.

SO you have one choice... only one. When. And all too often, you'll blow that choice too. But don't worry. Your kid will eventually love and hate you for various periods of your life no matter what you do, so don't sweat the small stuff. Barney... you'll learn to appreciate him. Barbies... yup, those too. Spongebob... heck, you'll probably find yourself watching from time to time.

The only smart thing you can do is look around you. See all those close girlfriends you have now. The ones you are dressing up with to go to the Sex in the City movie with as a girls night out. Stick with them... and when they start getting knocked up - if you are going have kids, do it then. Cause there is part of it us guys can't relate to. And life is much easier... if you all jump off the edge at the same time.

That is about the only thing I know. OH, and that poop can be green. Don't sweat it.
