Below are some frequently asked questions about working for The Daily Barometer.
Do I need some kind of experience?
No. While experience in journalism will help you get started, no experience is needed to be hired. We offer training in the basics of reporting, writing for media and other skills required for the job. Many people start writing at the Barometer with no experience.
What kind of pay is available?
Reporters classified as "staff writers" or "freelance writers" earn $10 for each article published. Photographers, cartoonists, columnists and graphic artists are also paid per published item. The sports and Diversions sections also pay each reporter per published story.
"Senior reporters" earn a monthly salary which starts at $100. Senior reporter jobs are designed for reporters with more experience, and more information on the job description is available by contacting the editor or visiting the newsroom.
A variety of editor positions are available as well. Watch this Web site and the print edition for advertisements about these positions. Editors are also paid monthly.
